Summer has arrived in Australia which means it is time for a few reminders because it is crucial to prioritise sun safety to protect ourselves from the harmful effects of UV radiation.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Each year almost 2000 Australians die from this almost entirely preventable disease.

5 Ways to be Sunsmart in Australia

One of the best ways to protect your skin is to follow the Cancer Council's guidelines in combining a number of sun protection measures:

    1. Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
    2. Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30 (or higher) sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.
    3. Slap on a hat – broad brim or legionnaire style to protect your face, head, neck and ears.
    4. Seek shade.
    5. Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.

Lucky for you, we have a great range of Canopy Bay hats, Coolcabanas and We Are Feel Good sunscreen in store, and we have placed them in one convenient spot for you right here.

Finally, now is a good time to check the expiry date on your sunscreen.  Yes they have them!  If it has passed the expiry date there is a fair chance it is not providing you with the level of protectioon you assume.

Remember, sun safety is not just a seasonal concern but a year-round responsibility. By adopting these sun-safe practices, you can enjoy the summer months while minimising the risks associated with excessive sun exposure.
